Post Somnum

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 13, 2026

Post Somnum is a dream journal made by Zachary Kashef ("I", "me"). This policy explains what happens to the information you put into the app. In short: your dreams stay on your iPhone, I don't collect anything, and something leaves your iPhone only when you choose to send it.

What I Collect

Nothing. Post Somnum has no account, no server of its own, and no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting tools. I can't see your dreams or anything else you enter, and I don't receive any information about how you use the app.

What the App Stores on Your iPhone

This information stays on your iPhone. Like most apps' data, it's included in your iPhone's own backups (iCloud Backup or a computer) if you have backups turned on; Apple handles those backups under its own privacy policy. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.

Apple Health

Reading sleep from Apple Health is optional and off until you turn on Fill Sleep from Apple Health in Settings and allow it in iOS's permission sheet. The app then reads only your sleep analysis (time asleep, time in bed, time awake and sleep stages) and never writes anything to Apple Health. What it reads is used only to fill in the sleep for the nights in your journal and in your Statistics, and is saved with your entries on your iPhone. It's never sent to AI providers, to me, or to anyone else, and never used for advertising; it leaves your iPhone only inside an export or a shared dream that you make yourself. You can turn it off in Settings › Apple Health, and remove the app's access in the Health app (your picture › Apps › Post Somnum).

Your Calendar (Optional)

Calendar Context is off unless you turn it on in Settings and allow calendar access. When it's on, the app reads the title, start and end time, and calendar of the events in the calendars you choose, on your iPhone, to show them beside your dreams and to find patterns between your days and your dreams. It only reads: it never adds, changes or deletes events, and it doesn't read event notes, locations or invitees. Events are read each time they're shown and aren't saved in your journal. You can turn Calendar Context off in Settings at any time, and remove the app's calendar access in your iPhone's Settings.

When Information Leaves Your iPhone

Only when you choose:

The optional morning reminder is scheduled on your iPhone and never includes anything you've written.

Photos and voice notes are never sent to Anthropic, OpenAI or anyone else, and aren't included in exports or in a shared dream's text. One leaves your iPhone only if you share that photo or voice note yourself. Transcribing a voice note into text happens on your iPhone with Apple's on-device speech recognition; the first time, iOS may download Apple's speech model for your language, but your recording isn't sent.

Your Rights

I don't hold any of your personal data, so everything is already under your control on your iPhone: you can edit or delete any dream, export your journal at any time, and delete the app to remove everything.

If you live in the EU, EEA or UK, data protection law (GDPR) gives you the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to complain to a data protection supervisory authority. For anything you've sent to Anthropic or OpenAI, contact them directly.

Children

Post Somnum isn't intended for children under 13. AI Dream Analysis with Claude or OpenAI needs an account with those companies, which set their own age requirements.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published here and in the app with a new date.
